Responsibilities • With over 10,000 acres of park and greenway properties, this facility is responsible for providing high quality annuals, perennials, tropicals and small shrubs for parks • Assist the Head Grower with general greenhouse plant duties such as watering, taking cuttings, collecting and sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, plugs and plants • Perform all related greenhouse/nursery maintenance duties to include: cleaning greenhouses, moving benches, weeding, labeling, pruning, plant inventories, pot washing, loading and moving plants • Supervise and direct volunteers with greenhouse projects • Document, inventory and distribute herbicides • Participate in gardening and maintenance in various city parks

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates that have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and a commitment to serving others. This position will work at the City of Raleigh’s greenhouse and nursery with the Horticulture Specialist in all aspects of growing and propagating plants for Raleigh’s extensive park system.  Position Knowledge High School graduate and valid NCDL required. Self-motivated, detail-oriented person; experience with perennials and/or working with plants in a greenhouse/nursery growing environment and gardening experience a plus. Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. Horticulture Degree or two – three years’ experience preferred. Work Schedule: Ideal candidate must be able to work between 32-36 hours per week. Fall/Winter hours 7-3:30 and Spring/Summer hours 6-2:30. This position also shares weekend watering responsibilities during summer months.

  Physical Demands: Ability to work outside and inside a greenhouse during extreme weather conditions. Employee is required to maneuver down narrow aisles in greenhouses while cleaning, sweeping, trimming, weeding, watering and moving plants. The employee is required to use repetitive hand motion, count, stand, walk, lift, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend and lift 50lb bags of soil
